Grotto that Weeps

One of the unmissable tours in Ubatuba is the Gruta que Chora. The place, located on Praia da Sununga, attracts tourists and residents of the region due to its beauty and striking feature: drops of water fall from its interior.

Stories are told from generation to generation thanks to the famous drops. The best-known legend says that inside the cave lived a creature half dragon and half serpent, who every night transformed into a beautiful man and went to meet a girl from the region.

The rest of the story varies from teller to teller, but the tragic ending is the same: the young people were separated. According to legend, the drops that fall from all over the cave are the tears of the beautiful girl who was separated from the creature.
